Ben Madgen

I’m a former professional basketball player who grew up in the Barossa Valley, South Australia. My playing career spanned over 15 years from the collegiate to professional level. I attended Augusta State University (USA) from 2006-10, earning All-American honours and graduating with a diploma of Business Management.
My professional career began with the Sydney Kings in 2010 and was selected as the captain of the Sydney Kings from 2012 to 2015. I was also a member of the Australian Boomers National Team from 2011 to 2016.
My overseas experience consisted of playing in the European Basketball League from 2015 to 2019. Playing with teams in Belgium, Lithuania, and Germany. My last season of competitive basketball was as a member of the newly formed NBL franchise, the South East Melbourne Phoenix in 2019-2020.
In addition, I have a Master of Business Administration from the Macquarie Graduate School of Management and was a Blues Award Recipient, from Macquarie University, it’s most prestigious sports award.
I have always been passionate about the community, founding ‘Madgen’s Message of Hope’, which included hospital visits and memorable gameday experiences for children in need at The Childrens Hospital, Westmead, and Sydney Children’s Hospital at Randwick. I also facilitated free basketball clinics in the remote Indigenous town of Santa Teresa (NT), with a focus on nutrition, hydration, and wellbeing. I look forward to helping the Sydney Basketball Alliance to provide further opportunities for our wonderful community.
