Athena Koelmeyer
Secretary
Athena Koelmeyer is the Principal of Workplace Law. Since its inception in 2003, Athena has worked at Workplace Law, becoming Principal in 2010. Under Athena’s direction, Workplace Law provides timely, relevant advice and assistance to employers and promotes its view that there is no substitute for advance planning and good preparation.
Since 2000, Athena has engaged in the conduct and resolution of litigated matters in both Federal and State courts and tribunals. Experience in litigated matters ensures that Athena provides not only technically correct advice but also pragmatic advice. In Athena’s experience, early intervention not only has commercial benefits, but also benefits an organisation by avoiding disruption and disharmony brought about by workplace related litigation.
Athena has also assisted many clients to resolve workplace disputes of all kinds before the matter proceeds to litigation including supporting clients with difficult performance management or misconduct investigations, and the all too familiar retaliatory action by employees such as allegations of bullying or harassment or making workers compensation claims.
Assisting clients to achieve organisational goals or improving efficiencies is something Athena finds satisfying and results in her being involved in reorganisation discussions as well as supporting enterprise agreement negotiations.
Athena is a sought after speaker at conferences and is also regularly sought out for comment from journalists from the Australian Financial Review, Smart Company and other human resources publications.
Athena is passionate about supporting female professionals both within the firm and also in the sporting arena, actively promoting female athletes as part of the Workplace Law brand.
